Introductory Course - Marriage & Family Therapy
Marriage & Family Therapy: A Systemic Approach in the Healing of Family Relationships
Date: 17 – 18 July 2009
Venue: Disted College, Penang
Registration fee: RM 300 [RM 250 for PACP members]
Course Facilitators
Dr Ben Lim & Dr Soh Leong Lim earned their Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Tech University, TX. Dr Ben is an Associate Professor in Marital and Family Therapy at Bethel University San Diego, while Dr Soh Leong Lim is an Associate Professor in Marital and Family Therapy at San Diego State University. In addition to training marital and family therapists, they are also Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, and Clinical Members and Approved Supervisors of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. They travel to different parts of Asia to teach Marriage and Family Counseling during the summer months. They have three adult children residing in the United States.
Synopsis
This weekend course introduces participants to the basic principles and techniques of marital and family therapy. An integrative model will be presented that incorporates the common denominators of major family therapy theories. The course will cover the intake, assessment, case conceptualization, goal formulation, treatment planning, interventions, and termination in marital and family therapy. Systemic skills and techniques will be demonstrated and practiced in class. The workshop will be dialogical and the instructors will be collaborative and facilitative in their approach.
