By 2040, it is expected that the elderly population will make up 14.5% of the Malaysian population. Older adults aged 60 years and above are a special population of healthcare users. They often have multiple medical conditions, manage long-term medications, and bear age-related problems that can hinder communication and understanding.

National data shows that low health literacy is common among older adults. Doctors, pharmacists, and other health professionals who interact with older adults have a role to play in health literacy.
