After more than 17 years as a counselor and clinical administrator, Louis Downs, Ph.D. is presently an Associate Professor of counseling at California State University Sacramento. His clinical areas of specialization included survivors of trauma, dissociative disorders, personality disordered clients, anxiety and panic, and co-occurring disorders. In the summer of 2007, Dr. Downs traveled on a Fulbright Fellowship to Malaysia to consult with the Department of Guidance and Counseling Psychology of New Era College on counseling skills acquisition enhancement, to design and implement a disaster relief plan, and to provide continuing education for counselors in the federal district of Selangor. He has been appointed to a two year position as academic consultant to the New Era College Department of Guidance and Counseling Psychology and is presently serving as the clinical consultant to the Qing-jian Counseling Center in Shanghai, China.

Dr. Downs will present the theory, discuss issues with participants, and finally model the group process in action with volunteers from workshop attendees. Several styles of group will be presented so the audience can see how the process model is applied in various therapeutic group venues.
